EAU CLAIRE — Jennifer Lee has been named director of the Center for Alcohol Studies and Education and the new Blugold Parent and Family Office at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Lee has been a residence hall director at UW-Eau Claire since 1994. She also served for one year as the university's interim assistant director of housing and residence life from 2004-05. She holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Mankato State University and a master's degree in student counseling and personnel services from Kansas State University.

Lee's tenure working and living in the residence halls gives her insights into the lives of students that she can apply in her new position, said Kimberly Barrett, associate vice chancellor of student development and diversity.

"I am very pleased to add Ms. Lee to the student development and diversity team," Barrett said. "She brings a large UW-Eau Claire network of connections she can use to integrate best practices related to alcohol abuse prevention and parent partnerships throughout the campus experience."

In response to a trend of increased parent involvement in the lives of their college students, UW-Eau Claire created the Blugold Parent and Family Office to assist parents and families in ensuring the success of their students, Lee said.

"We welcome the opportunity to be proactive in partnering with parents and families in helping our students develop into the independent learners and future leaders we all expect them to become," she said.

Blugold Parent and Family Office initiatives Lee will oversee include an information and welcome tent staffed by university faculty and staff members during residence hall move-in day, the monthly Blugold Nuggets e-newsletter, a parent and family advisory council, and an online interactive calendar that will include information about upcoming campus and community events as well as tips for parents and families to ensure their students have the information necessary to participate.

"Families are seeking ways to continue to contribute to the success of their students during the college years," Lee said. "The Blugold Parent and Family Office is an exciting avenue through which to work together and build upon methods of positive communication that encourage our students to grow, increase independence and meet, in their own way, the university learning goals."

As CASE director, Lee will oversee programs to reduce high-risk drinking and its negative consequences among UW-Eau Claire students.

"I've witnessed how high-risk choices can be a roadblock to student success," Lee said. "Partnering with students, university faculty and staff, and the Eau Claire community to reduce the occurrence and effects of high-risk drinking is a tremendous opportunity to make a positive impact on our campus community."
