Blues Music and Documentary on Skate Boarding
Close Summer Session Programs

EAU CLAIRE — Chicago-area blues artist Keith Scott will open the final week of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Summer Session Programs with a free outdoor concert Monday, July 30. The singer-songwriter will perform from 7-9 p.m. on the Central Campus Mall. Audience members are invited to bring blankets or folding chairs for lawn seating. Refreshments will be sold, and popcorn is free.

Keith Scott has built a reputation as a sizzling blues guitarist, dynamic performer, noteworthy songwriter and bandleader over the past 20 years. He has toured throughout the United States and Europe, both with his band and blues great Jimmy Dawkins. A favorite on the college circuit, he has performed at the Hard Rock Cafe, House of Blues and the Chicago Blues Fest.

"Dogtown and Z-Boys" posterThe summer-long Summer Cinema series of documentaries and discussions will conclude with "Dogtown and Z-Boys" (2001), screening Tuesday-Thursday, July 31-Aug. 2. The Sundance Award-winning documentary gives an insider's look at how California kids brought their surfing style into skateboarding, revolutionizing the sport and producing a lifestyle that had a profound effect on modern American youth culture. Rated PG-13, the film will be shown at 7 p.m. all three evenings in Davies Theatre. Admission is free.

The screening Wednesday, Aug. 1, will be preceded by an informal discussion led by Anthony Loughan of Underloud Boardshop , 217 N. Barstow St., Eau Claire, from 6-7 p.m. in the Skylight Lounge of Davies Center. Loughan will discuss the film and the Eau Claire skateboarding scene, including ongoing community efforts to create a public skateboard park. Free beverages and snacks will be provided.

Funded by the students of UW-Eau Claire, the Summer Session Programs series is presented annually by the Activities and Programs office.
