Entrepreneurial Training Series
Now Taking Applications

RELEASED: July 17, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — Turning a creative business idea into a thriving enterprise takes planning. The UW-Eau Claire Small Business Development Center and Continuing Education Office are now accepting applications for the Entrepreneurial Training Program that will begin Sept. 18. Classes fill quickly, so early registration is recommended.

The series is comprised of twelve sessions designed to help entrepreneurs learn the fundamentals of small business management and create a business plan, often required by lenders, that will guide their actions and attract potential investors.

Sessions meet Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:15 p.m. at the UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education office, 210 Water St.

"The series is designed for those who are serious about starting a business, or those already in business who want some structured training, rather than moving ahead on their own," said SBDC business counseling outreach specialist Jim Mishefske. "It is intended for people who have little or no business experience or formal business training."

The Wisconsin Department of Commerce provides tuition assistance in the amount of $750 to qualified applicants who complete the program, including the preparation of a written business plan, so the actual cost to participate in the Entrepreneurial Training Program is only $250.

The fall 2007 series schedule is as follows:

Sept. 18: Feasibility/Business Plan/Online Research
Sept. 25: Understanding Your Market/Developing a Strategy
Oct. 2: Small Business Advertising and Promotion
Oct. 9: ECommerce/Website Development
Oct. 16: Legal Issues and Risk Management
Oct. 23: Business Plan Writing Workshop
Oct. 30: Financial Management
Nov. 6: Customer Service & Time Management
Nov. 13: Developing Your Financial Statements
Nov. 20: Technology and Your Small Business
Nov. 27: Recordkeeping & Taxes
Dec. 4: Selling Your Business and Yourself

By the end of the series, participants should have completed a comprehensive business plan. Individualized counseling from the Small Business Development Center is available at no charge to all program participants as they work on their business plans during and following the series.

To register, obtain additional program information or request reasonable accommodations for disabilities, call 715-836-3636/toll-free 866-893-2423, use the Wisconsin Relay System (711), email or visit the Continuing Education Web site.
