for the Week of Feb. 5

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Feb. 5. All events are free and open to the public.

Thursday, Feb. 8:

  • Senior Philip Snyder, Hastings, Minn., will perform a trumpet degree recital at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. He will open the program with Andre Jolivet's Concertino, accompanied by Roger Bethard on piano. For his second piece, Trio for Trumpet, Violin and Piano by Eric Ewazen, he will be assisted by senior Peter Chang, Eau Claire, on violin and alumna Anne Kubiatowicz on piano. The second half of the concert will feature Claude Bolling's "Toot Suite," again with assistance from Kubiatowicz on piano. For the last two pieces, Snyder will perform as part of the Two Rivers Brass Quintet, which also includes graduate student Josh Pauly, Mayer, Minn., seniors Mary Heimerman, Shoreview, Minn., and Josh Lee, Ladysmith, and junior Brad March, Minneapolis, Minn. They will perform Malcolm Arnold's Quintet for Brass and Giovanni Gabrieli's Canzona per sonare No. 2.

Sunday, Feb. 11:

  • Professor of music Paul Kosower will give a solo cello recital at 2 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Each half of the program will feature one piece by J.S. Bach followed by an original composition by Kosower. The program will begin with Bach's Suite No. 2 in d minor, followed by "Beau Soir," a theme with seven variations by Kosower. The second half of the concert will feature Bach's Suite No. 6 in D Major and "Vista Con Amore," a 2005 composition by Kosower.
