Story Idea
A workshop to help businesses learn how to export products to India will run from 9 a.m.-noon Jan. 24 at the Plaza hotel in Eau Claire. "Opportunities in India" will feature UW-Eau Claire professors Rama Yelkur and Raj Aroskar speaking on "Government, Cultural, Business and Political Issues in India" and Megtec Systems president Mohit Uberoi discussing "Entering the Indian Market — Practical Strategies Based on Experience." The workshop is part of UW-Eau Claire's International Exporting Workshop Series, sponsored by UW-Eau Claire's Small Business Development Center and Continuing Education, and the International Division of the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. Story Idea
A Chippewa Falls native has received a $3,000 scholarship through the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program. The scholarship will enable UW-Eau Claire junior Rachel Berg to study in Costa Rica this semester at a language school called Costa Rica Study Abroad, located just outside of San Jose. A Latin American studies major, Berg will stay with a host family, allowing her to be immersed in the local community during her stay. In addition to her classes, she will complete a two-week service learning project while in Costa Rica. The Gilman Scholarship Program received nearly 2,000 applications for 400 possible awards for the 2007 spring awards cycle. Berg is the third UW-Eau Claire student to be notified in recent weeks that she was selected for the highly competitive program. An opening reception for the exhibit "Limited Editions, Infinite Possibilities" will run from 7:30-9 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Foster Gallery of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The show will feature Wisconsin and Minnesota visual and literary artists' work with various printmaking processes combined with prose and poetry. It will run through Feb. 15.
