A sunset ceremony is planned for Monday, Jan. 15 to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Activities will begin at 5 p.m. at the Ecumenical Religious Center at UW-Eau Claire. The Chippewa Valley Youth Choir will sing "We Rise" during "The Man and his Dream" ceremony. Eau Claire middle school students will read King's chronology and excerpts from his "I Have a Dream" speech. Projects created by middle school students honoring King's vision will be displayed at the ERC. The event is sponsored by UW-Eau Claire's Office of Multicultural Affairs and University Lutheran Church. For more information, contact Rachel Keniston at 715-834-8026.

Financial Aid Night for high school seniors planning to attend post-secondary schools and their parents will run from 7-8:30 p.m. Jan. 11 in Schofield Auditorium. The event will feature presentations about how to apply for financial aid, who is eligible for financial aid, what kind of aid is available for college costs, how financial aid eligibility is calculated and information about student loans. Financial Aid Night is open to all students and parents regardless of the higher education institution a student plans to attend. The event is hosted by the Wisconsin Educational Opportunity Program office in Eau Claire and UW-Eau Claire financial aid staff. For more information, call 715-836-3171 or 715-836-3373.

Story Idea
UW-Eau Claire's Small Business Development Center and Continuing Education are taking applications for the Entrepreneurial Training Series, which helps people plan how to turn a creative business idea into a thriving enterprise. The training series, which will begin Feb. 13, includes 13 sessions designed to help entrepreneurs learn the fundamentals of small business management and create a business plan that will guide their actions and attract potential investors. The series is often required by lenders. The Wisconsin Department of Commerce provides tuition assistance to qualified applicants who complete the program. By the end of the series, participants should complete a comprehensive business plan. For more information, contact SBDC business counseling outreach specialist Jim Mishefske at 715-836-5811.

There will be no classes and UW-Eau Claire offices will be closed Jan. 15 in honor of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Winterim classes will resume and offices will open again at 8 a.m. Jan. 16.
