Registration Opens for April Conference
on Adolescents and Families

EAU CLAIRE — "Building a Culture and Climate of Respect in Our Schools, Communities and Families" is the theme for the 19th annual Adolescents and Families Conference sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension. The conference will be held April 19-20 at Lakewoods Resort in Cable.

The conference is designed for guidance counselors, teachers, administrators, social workers, youth counselors, law enforcement and school safety officers, parents, community leaders and others who work with, nurture and mentor young people.

Conference keynote speakers are Dr. Anthony Fairbanks of New Mexico State University and Ada Deer of UW-Madison. Fairbanks' presentation, "Walking in Two Worlds: Journeys Throughout Native and Non-Native Worlds," will focus on cultural understanding and respect. Deer will provide a closing keynote address titled "Our Youth: Our Future."

Sammy Rangel, program coordinator for SAFE Streets in Racine, will discuss gang issues in the Midwest, and school violence and safety. Dr. Maureen Mack, professor of curriculum and instruction at UW-Eau Claire, will share strategies to promote equity and justice for both genders, and discuss "At-Risk Youth — Contributing Factors and Positive Response."

The conference fee is $195 for registrations received by April 6 or $225 for registrations received after April 6. The fee includes instruction, materials, lunch both days, dinner Thursday, breakfast Friday, and a certificate for 10 Continuing Education Hours (by request). A one-graduate credit option is available for an additional fee.
