Lori Scardino Selected Regional Student Leader of the Year by Golden Key Honor Society

RELEASED: Feb. 26, 2007

Lori ScardinoEAU CLAIRE — Lori Scardino, a senior chemistry and biology major at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, has been selected Regional Student Leader of the Year by the Golden Key International Honor Society.

It's the second major award this month for Scardino, who also was named to the 2007 All-USA College Academic First Team by the newspaper USA Today Feb. 15.

An accomplished undergraduate researcher and single mother of two from Eau Claire, Scardino epitomizes everything the prestigious Golden Key award seeks to recognize, according to Golden Key adviser Paula Stuettgen, who nominated Scardino for the award.

"She has outstanding commitment to Golden Key, superior academics, and campus and community leadership," Stuettgen said. "As vice president she spearheaded the inaugural UW-Eau Claire Graduate and Professional School Fair. I am so proud of her."

The Regional Student Leader Awards recognize one Golden Key member in each of its regions. There are 10 U.S. regions, Asia-Pacific Region, South Africa Region and Canada Region. Each recipient receives a $500 award and will be considered a candidate for the International Student Leader Award later this year.
