UW-Eau Claire Forensics Team
Wins State Tournament for 15th Straight Year

RELEASED: Feb. 23, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — For the 15th straight year, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team won the Wisconsin State Tournament, held at UW-Madison Feb. 16 and 17.

In addition, both Wisconsin representatives chosen to attend the Interstate Oratory Contest are from UW-Eau Claire. Senior Christine Zani, Hurley, and sophomore Julie Germain, New Richmond, qualified for the IOC, the oldest speech competition in existence, being held April 26-28 in Santa Fe, N.M.

Following are the individual results from the tournament:

Junior Hilary Rasmussen, Eau Claire, placed first in informative speaking, first in duo interpretation with Zani, second in dramatic interpretation, second in poetry interpretation and second in program oral interpretation. Rasmussen also took first in individual sweepstakes.

Zani took first in oratory, second in after-dinner speaking, third in prose interpretation, and third in communication analysis. Zani also placed second in individual sweepstakes.

Senior Amy Oldakowski, Sobieski, took first in extemporaneous speaking, first in after-dinner speaking, second in impromptu speaking and third in oratory.

Germain placed second in oratory, fourth in informative speaking and fourth in dramatic interpretation.

Freshman Nick Miller, Stoughton, placed third in impromptu speaking, third in after-dinner speaking, and fifth in duo interpretation with Laura Magnusson, Apple Valley, Minn., qualifying that event for the National Forensics Association National Tournament.

Junior Eric Plantenberg, Monroe, took third in poetry interpretation, fifth in oratory and fifth in prose interpretation.

Freshman B.J. Pickard, Eau Claire, took fifth in informative speaking, fifth in after-dinner speaking, fifth in communication analysis and sixth in duo interpretation with Magnusson.

Freshman Jake Johnson, Mondovi, placed sixth in extemporaneous speaking.
