Dr. Joy Mighty to Speak at UW-Eau Claire
on Diversity Issues in Higher Education

In addition to her March 5 public presentation at UW-Eau Claire, Dr. Joy Mighty will present interactive diversity workshops for university faculty and teaching academic staff on Tuesday, March 6. More information.

EAU CLAIRE — Dr. Joy Mighty, director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning at Queen's University and a professor at Queen's School of Business, will present "The World is in Your Classroom: Challenges and Opportunities of Diversity at the University" at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Monday, March 5.

Her presentation, sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences Diversity Advisory Committee, will be held at 4 p.m. in Room 102 of Hibbard Hall.

Mighty's discussion will explore the relevance and importance of diversity in a predominantly white university and discuss ways of using the opportunities provided by diversity to create a broader university culture. A question and answer period will follow the presentation.

Mighty, born in Georgetown, Guyana, is a minority scholar with expertise as a teacher, educational developer, researcher and consultant, with a special interest in equity and diversity issues. She has taught in schools in Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad, Tobago and Egypt. She has master's degrees in education and business administration and earned her doctorate in organizational behavior from the Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto, Canada.

Mighty's primary research interests include issues related to the management of workplace diversity , the dynamics of diversity in teaching and learning, workplace effects of family violence, and organizational development and change.
