'The Vagina Monologues' to Be Presented
Feb. 22-24 at UW-Eau Claire

RELEASED: Feb. 20, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — Three benefit performances of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 22, 23 and 24 in Schofield Auditorium at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Making Our School An Intercultural Community, a UW-Eau Claire Housing and Residence Life diversity task force, is sponsoring the student production of this compilation of women's thoughts, feelings and experiences related to being a woman. The topics of the monologues range from coming of age to instances of sexual assault.

For the past decade MOSAIC has held events to celebrate V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. The V-Day College Campaign invites members of college and university communities around the world to present benefit productions of "The Vagina Monologues" to raise money and awareness to help stop violence.

MOSAIC will donate 80 percent of the proceeds of its production to The Bolton Refuge House, a domestic violence/sexual assault shelter in Eau Claire, 10 percent to the Center for Awareness of Sexual Assault, and 10 percent to the Global V-Day campaign for justice to "comfort women." The "comfort women" were civilians forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military between 1932 and 1945. They are fighting for an official apology and compensation from the Japanese government.

The Third Annual Art Show and Silent Auction will take place during "The Vagina Monologues." The silent art auction will take place outside Schofield Auditorium during the performances.

Admission for performances of "The Vagina Monologues" is $7 with a UW-Eau Claire student ID, $10 with a UW-Eau Claire faculty or staff ID and $10 for the general public. Tickets are available at the University Service Center in the east lobby of Davies Center, 715-836-3727.

A discussion on "The Vagina Monologues" will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, in the Women's and Gender Equity Center, Room 30 of Schofield Hall. The discussion is a campus and community event sponsored by MOSAIC and WAGE.
