EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension is pleased to announce the winners of its First Annual Design-a-Cover Drawing Contest. The winning drawings will be featured in the 2007 Summer Youth brochure.

The first place winner is Mariah Gray, a 3rd grader at Meadowview Elementary. Fifth grader Rachel Kent from Locust Lane Elementary was runner up. Honorable mentions were awarded to 2nd grader Madeline Braun from Longfellow Elementary and to Rachel Remes, a 6th grader at Regis Middle School.

UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education offers many summer learning opportunities to Chippewa Valley youth, including Summer Institute, SmART Summer Art, and the Chippewa Valley Museum Day Camps.

Summer Institute will be held June 18-28 in Chippewa Falls and July 9-19 in Eau Claire. More than 1,000 students in grades K-8 take advantage of these summer enrichment classes each year. The program includes classes for children entering kindergarten next fall.

SmART Summer Art, featuring morning and afternoon art classes for 6th-12th grade students, will be held on the UW-Eau Claire campus July 30-August 10. Topics include photography, drawing, painting, eco-art and book art.

The Chippewa Valley Museum Day Camps introduce 3rd-6th grade students to our regional and state history. Day camps will be held Aug. 6-10 and August 13-17 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Chippewa Valley Museum. Flexible registration allows students to attend for a day, a week or the full two weeks.

"Continuing Education's summer programs offer enrichment for those who love to learn," said Libby Thurston, Continuing Education/UW-Extension Youth Programs Outreach Specialist.

Thurston attributes much of the programs' success to the partnerships that Continuing Education has developed with local school districts and organizations. This year, Continuing Education partners with the Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls School Districts, the Chippewa Valley Museum and Charter Bank.

Program brochures will be delivered to all public and private schools in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls during the week of March 26-30, with registration beginning on Monday, April 2.

Brochures also will be available in the Continuing Education office or on the Web site. Registrations can be mailed or delivered to 210 Water Street in Eau Claire, or faxed to 715-836-5263. No phone or online registrations are accepted. For more information, call 715-836-3636 or toll free 866-893-2423, or e-mail CE@uwec.edu.
