Public Invited to China Forum
at UW-Eau Claire Feb. 28

EAU CLAIRE — The public is invited to attend "Challenges Facing China as a Growing Economy," a public forum about the growing importance of China on the world economic stage. The program will be presented from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the Tamarack Room of Davies Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Three UW-Eau Claire professors will join two business professionals with ties to China to discuss how social, cultural and political developments in that country impact those seeking opportunities in international business or education. The panel will discuss issues ranging from global perspectives of changes in Asia to the practical details of doing business with China. Anyone interested in establishing business, cultural or educational relationships with China is encouraged to attend.

Following is a list of the panelists:

  • Dr. Maria DeCosta, professor of economics, who has lived and taught in China and Taiwan and continues to teach and do research on China.
  • Dr. Jules Chan, emeritus professor of political science, who has published extensively on the socio-political phenomena in Asia.
  • Dr. Jianjun Ji, assistant professor of sociology, whose research interests include demographical studies of China and its aging population.
  • Michael Webb, president of Beijing U-Fuel and Shidao Webb School, as well as other international and domestic companies, who holds more than 20 domestic patents and international patent, including Chinese patents.
  • Wendy Chen-Donglai, owner and manager of DNC Design, an Eau Claire-based small business that trades with China, who will talk from a Small-to-Medium Enterprise perspective.

The "Challenges Facing China as a Growing Economy" forum is sponsored by the Chippewa Valley Chinese Friendship and Scholarship Association, the UW-Eau Claire Center for International Education, the international business program of the UW-Eau Claire College of Business and the international division of the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. The CFSA acts as a clearinghouse for information and expertise relating to China and also provides language translation and interpretation services to businesses and individuals in the northwest Wisconsin region.
