EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education and The Healing Place Grief Support Center of Sacred Heart Hospital will present "Death, Grief and Mourning: Wisdom Teachings for Caregivers," on Thursday, April 5, at the Best Western Trail Lodge and Suites in Eau Claire. The seminar is designed for physicians, nurses, social workers, funeral directors, counselors, educators, psychologists, hospice personnel, clergy, lay ministers and others who care for bereaved people.

Dr. Alan D. Wolfelt, internationally noted author, educator, grief counselor and director of the Center for Loss and Life Transition in Fort Collins, Colo., is the featured speaker.

Wofelt will share his tenets of "companioning" rather than treating bereaved persons, discuss a soulful approach to caregiving, explain that grief is not an illness and explore socio-cultural assumptions about grief.

"Dr. Wofelt is a warm, personable and skilled presenter," said Diane Brandt, director of clinical services for Northwest Wisconsin Homecare in Eau Claire. "He is able to take the topic of grief and loss and put a very human face on it."

Continuing education hours are available for social workers, licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, funeral directors, nurses, physicians, long-term care administrators and professional chaplains.

The conference fee is $85 for registrations received or postmarked by March 23; $75 for registrations received or postmarked by March 23 for groups of three or more registering simultaneously from the same organization; and $95 for registrations received or postmarked after March 24.
