UW-Eau Claire's Winter Carnival

RELEASED: Feb. 13, 2007

Mighty FairlyEAU CLAIRE — Mighty Fairly, a Minneapolis band rapidly gaining popularity with its catchy melodic pop music, will headline the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's annual Winter Carnival concert Saturday, Feb. 17. Doors will open at 8 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

Mighty Fairly's debut release, "Perfectly Good Airplanes," is currently being spun nationwide on over 260 college radio, specialty and online stations. The UW-Eau Claire show will feature a scaled-back acoustic performance by Mighty Fairly band members Mischa Suemnig and Kellie Nitz.

"Full of hooks, bright harmonies and irresistible synthesizer fills, Suemnig writes songs that lodge themselves in the listener's brain and beg to be played again and again," wrote Andrea Myers in The Pulse of the Twin Cities.

Opening the show will be local favorites The Daredevil Christopher Wright. Rapidly gaining popularity in Midwest, the group's self-titled EP has been widely acknowledged and praised by critics and fans alike.

Tickets are $5 ($3 with UW-Eau Claire student ID card) at the Service Center in Davies Center's east lobby and also will be sold at the door. The show is open to all ages. Proof of age will be required for alcohol purchases.

Patrons may also charge tickets to MasterCard or Visa when they order by phone. Call 715-836-3727 or, outside the immediate Eau Claire area, call toll-free 800-949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to all telephone charge orders.

The concert is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
