Novice UW-Eau Claire Forensics Team
Places Second Against Varsity Teams

RELEASED: Feb. 9, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team placed second at the Icebox Classic tournament Feb. 2-3 at St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud, Minn.

According to Karen Morris, director of UW-Eau Claire forensics, the UW-Eau Claire forensics team was the only novice team competing against the other varsity teams.

Following are the individual results from the St. Cloud Tournament:

Freshman B.J. Pickard, Eau Claire, placed first in communication analysis, qualifying that event for the American Forensics Association national tournament. He also placed third in informative speaking, fifth in after-dinner speaking, fifth in prose interpretation, qualifying that event for the National Forensics Association national tournament, and sixth in duo interpretation with freshman Laura Magnusson, Apple Valley, Minn. Pickard took second overall in individual sweepstakes.

Magnusson also took second in informative speaking.

Freshman Paul Gilleland, Fall Creek, placed first in poetry interpretation, fourth in dramatic interpretation, and fourth in prose interpretation.

Freshman Alex Collie, Menomonie, took second in prose interpretation, and first in duo interpretation with junior Eric Plantenberg, Monroe.

Plantenberg placed third in dramatic interpretation, sixth in poetry interpretation and fourth in overall individual sweepstakes.

Sophomore Jessica Walter, Eau Claire, took third in poetry interpretation.

Freshman Emily Schreiner, Lino Lakes, Minn., placed third in persuasive speaking and fifth in informative speaking, qualifying the event for NFA.

Freshman Kerry Nutting, Wausau, took fourth in informative speaking and sixth in dramatic interpretation.

Freshman Whitney Zahn, Menomonee Falls, took fifth in duo interpretation with Plantenberg, qualifying that event for NFA, and seventh in prose interpretation.

Freshman Nick Miller, Stoughton, placed sixth in after-dinner speaking.
