Symphony Band to Perform
Spring Concert May 6

RELEASED: April 27, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Symphony Band will present a concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 6, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The Symphony Band, directed by Phillip Ostrander, assistant professor of music, will begin the concert with "Prelude and Steeplechase" by John Cheetham, followed by "I Am" by Andrew Boysen, Jr., which will be conducted by senior Theresa Soules, Menomonie, the Winner of the 2007 Symphony Band Conducting Competition. The band will also perform "Concerto for Piano in A Minor, Op. 16, Mvt. I" by Edvard Grieg, featuring junior David Hurd, Fall Creek, the winner of the 2007 Symphony Band Concerto Competition.

Other pieces the ensemble will perform include "Circus Days March" by Karl King; the four movement "Suite Provencal" by Jan Van der Roost and "Voyager" by John Stout. The band will conclude with "Cartoon" by Paul Hart.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public, $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
