St. Paul Singer-songwriter JoAnna James
to Present Three Free Concerts in Cabin

RELEASED: April 27, 2007

JoAnna JamesEAU CLAIRE — Singer-songwriter JoAnna James will present three free concerts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire May 3-5. Her shows will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday in The Cabin of Davies Center. Fran King, an indie pop-rock performer from Dublin, will join James for her Saturday evening show.

Recipient of two consecutive Minnesota Music Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year, James is a gifted St. Paul musician with "a voice guaranteed to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up" (Pulse of the Twin Cities). She has two full-length recordings — a self-titled CD released in 2004 and her sophomore album "Desire" (2005) — and has just released a new EP, "Back of My Mind."

"But the true heart and soul of this rare talent — the reason you should remember her name — is her live performance," wrote City Pages recently. "When JoAnna James closes her eyes and begins her song, gravity suddenly leaves the room. There are moments during her shows when everyone in attendance is holding onto something heavy, as if worried that her voice might cause them to simply float away."

"She is truly a unique combination of astounding natural talent and honest writing," wrote Volume One.

James has shared the stage with national and international touring musicians including U.K. jazz sensation Jamie Cullum, Australian singer/songwriter Missy Higgins, Ken Stringfellow (of REM, The Posies and Big Star), Joseph Arthur, A Girl Called Eddy, The Honeydogs, Mason Jennings, The New Standards, Slim Dunlap (the Replacements), Cloud Cult and Dan Wilson.

The shows are open to all ages. Soft drinks, domestic and imported beer and popcorn will be sold; proof of age is required for alcohol purchases.

The Cabin program is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
