UW-Eau Claire's Jazz Ensemble I Concert
to Feature Music of Frank Sinatra May 3

Dr. Toni Poll-Sorensen, above, and the UW-Eau Claire Concert Dance Company will perform during a tribute to the music of Frank Sinatra at the May 3 Jazz Ensemble I concert in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Poll-Sorensen, professor of dance in UW-Eau Claire's department of music and theatre arts, has had a career as a dancer, choreographer and registered movement therapist that has spanned more than 30 years. She has performed with the Gordon Raynor Dancers and on stage with Louis Armstrong and Dinah Shore.

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's award-winning Jazz Ensemble I, under the direction of Robert Baca, professor of music and director of Jazz studies, will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

Jazz I will begin the concert with "The Jazz Calling" by John Clayton, featuring senior Scott Currie, Brookfield, on piano, followed by "Even Swans Have a Mischievous Side," by senior Steve Hobert, Hartland. "Nardis," by Mike Crotty, will feature freshman Jeremy Boettcher, Eau Claire, and senior Kevin Rowe, Oconomowoc, on bass, and "A Game of Inches" by Gordon Goodwin will feature senior Ben Herpel-Dobay, Salem, Ore., on tenor saxophone and junior Corey Cunningham, Holmen, on guitar.

For the second half of the concert, the ensemble will perform a tribute to the music of Frank Sinatra. This set will include performances by the UW-Eau Claire Concert Dance Company and its director, Dr. Toni Poll Sorensen. The ensemble will begin with "The Song is You" by Oscar Hammerstein II and Jerome Kern, featuring freshman Aaron Hedenstrom, St. Paul, Minn., on alto saxophone, followed by "Where or When" by Rodgers and Hart, featuring senior Randall Pingrey, Madison, on trombone. Next the ensemble will perform "You Make Me Feel So Young" by Mack Gordon and Josef Myrow, featuring junior James Geddes, Fond du Lac, on flute. "I'll Be Seeing You" by Irving Kahal and Sammy Fain will feature junior Jennifer Tinberg, Chanhassen, Minn., on clarinet, and Cole Porter's "I've Got You Under My Skin" will feature Herpel-Dobay. Another Cole Porter favorite, "Just One of Those Things," will feature senior Adam Braatz, Sun Prairie, on piano. The concert will conclude with Ray Noble's "Cherokee," featuring Currier on piano, Herpel-Dobay on sax and junior John Raymond, Golden Valley, Minn., on trumpet.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
