Two UW-Eau Claire Nursing Students Receive
Scholarships from WLN and Blue Cross Blue Shield

RELEASED: April 25, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — Two University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire nursing students were among 20 students from around the state selected to receive $1,000 Wisconsin League for Nursing Scholarships funded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wisconsin.

Seniors Sarah Voogd, Austin, Minn., and Amy Lavin, Medford, will receive their scholarships on Friday, May 4, at the 2007 WLN conference in Milwaukee.

"I felt extremely honored to be chosen as a WLN scholarship recipient," Voogd said. "UW-Eau Claire is only able to nominate two undergraduate students for this scholarship so just being chosen by my faculty is a great honor, as our nursing program has many exemplary and deserving students."

Lavin was also very excited about the scholarship, which will help her pay for educational costs.

"As a non-traditional student, with a son who is also in college and a daughter in high school, our family faces a lot of expenses in addition to my educational costs," Lavin said. "The generosity of the organization is very much appreciated."

The Wisconsin League for Nursing Scholarship program, established to help address the nursing shortage, requires students who have completed at least half of the credits necessary for graduation to write about their scholastic ability, professional or community activities, goals for nursing and financial need.
