UW-Eau Claire Viennese Ball
Scholarship Winners Announced

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students received awards and scholarships at the university's 33rd annual Viennese Ball, held April 13 and 14. Proceeds from the two-night event and donations to the Viennese Ball are used to support awards and global study opportunities for deserving UW-Eau Claire students.

Following is a list of students who received Viennese Ball International Study Awards which recognize international studies, music service and academic excellence, and service to the ball through Davies University Center employment at UW-Eau Claire's 2007 Viennese Ball.

Kristin Gilbank, Janesville, and Whitney Zahn, Menomonee Falls, received Wilhelm and Ingrid Brauner Awards, given to selected exchange students from UW-Eau Claire to the University of Graz, Austria. This award is named for Wilhelm and Ingrid Brauner of the Austrian government in recognition of their services and efforts in the successful development of the annual ball. Gilbank is majoring in German and biology and is the daughter of Karen and David Gilbank. Zahn is a biology major and the daughter of Margaret and Ralph Zahn.

Christian Hoel, Madison, received the Heinz K. Seitinger Scholarship, given to a UW-Eau Claire student studying in Graz. This scholarship is named for former Austrian trade commissioner Heinz K. Seitinger in recognition of his contributions to UW-Eau Claire's international programs. Hoel is majoring in German for business and political science. He is the son of Karen and David Hoel.

The AVL List Award is given to exchange students from the University of Graz to UW-Eau Claire. Scholarship monies are provided by AVL-List of Graz Helmut List, president. A manufacturer of internal combustion engines and measurement technology, AVL-List is the UW-Eau Claire Foundation's first international corporate scholarship sponsor.

Two Austrian students, Verena Schober and Carmen Teubenbacher, received AVL-List Scholarships. Schober is pursuing a master of arts in English. She is from Ligist, Austria, and is the daughter of Sophie and Hubert Schober. Her American host parents are Kathy and Tim Mentink. Teubenbacher is also pursuing a master of arts in English. She is from Graz, Austria, and is the daughter of Anna and Hubert Teubenbacher. Her American host parents are Sandy and Bob Ayres.

The following students received Viennese Ball Senior Music Scholarships, awarded for talent, academic achievement and contributions to the department of music and theatre arts. The Viennese Ball also supports an additional 25 endowed and division scholarships each year.

Mary Heimerman, Shoreview, Minn., is an instrumental music education major. She is the daughter of Judith and Thomas Heimerman.

Reid Larsen, Waconia, Minn., is a music education major. His parents are Teri and Chuck Larsen.

Matthew Lichtenwald, Fond du Lac, is a piano performance major. His parents are Sandy and Dan Lichtenwald.

Caitlin Nelson, Green Bay, is a choral music education major. Her parents are Michelle and William Nelson.

Trombonist Randall Pingrey, Madison, is pursuing a bachelor of science in music. His parents are Karen Atz and Paul Pingrey.

Kevin Rowe, Oconomowoc, is a music performance major. His parents are Laura and Bob Rowe.

Mark Lundin, Blaine, Minn., received the Ada Bors Music Service Award, recognizing outstanding service to the department of music and theatre arts. The award is named for the originator and coordinator of the annual Viennese Ball through its silver anniversary year, in honor of her service to the community. Lundin is majoring in music and mass communications-public relations. He is the son of Linda and Peter Lundin.

Paul Behnke, Eau Claire, Jessica Kastner, Mineral Point, and Charles Schwie, Eau Claire, received W.R. Davies University Center Service Awards that recognize outstanding service to the Viennese Ball. Behnke is an elementary education major and the son of Kathy and Warren Behnke. He worked as the leader of student managers on duty in Davies. Kastner is majoring in advertising and Spanish business professions and the daughter of Jeri and Ted Kastner. For the last year, Kastner has been co-manager of the University Stagecrew. Schwie is a religious studies major and is the son of Sherri and Don Marten. Throughout his university career, Schwie has worked for Blugold Dining.
