EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation awarded senior David Jacobs, Green Bay, the Karl Andresen Political Science Scholarship for the 2006-07 academic year.

The award was established by former students of Dr. Andresen, professor emeritus of political science, to recognize a graduating senior who has demonstrated academic excellence and the promise of future academic achievements. Jacobs will receive an award of $5,000.

"I think I was chosen based on a combination of my academic achievements at the university and my potential for future achievement after graduation," Jacobs said. "I feel very fortunate to have received the award."

Jacobs said he will use the scholarship to help pay for expenses at either Northwestern University School of Law or Harvard Law School.

The scholarship will help alleviate the tremendous financial burden of law school, Jacobs said.

Jacobs said that he owes a lot to the faculty of the political science department.

"Twice before, I had considered transferring to Madison, and if it had not been for this department, I would have done so," Jacobs said. "Here you can develop a relationship with the professors that would be impossible at a larger school — and we have some amazing professors."

The award will be presented during the Honors Week celebration and the Pi Sigma Alpha reception at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in the Alumni Room of Davies Center.
