Conference on Coming Labor Shortage to Take Place in Eau Claire June 6

RELEASED: April 23, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — Attracting and retaining knowledgeable, experienced, and skilled workers is the focus of the "Fact: 2012: Labor Shortage in Western Wisconsin" conference scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at Florian Gardens in Eau Claire.

Sponsored by UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education and supported by co-sponsors, partners and exhibitors, the conference is designed for human resources managers; executives; business owners; public, education and government administrators; and others involved in staffing.

Keynote speaker Erica Whittlinger, co-founder of TheReFirement Group and "Sound Money" public radio program speaker, will clarify the impact of demographic shifts on business, identify how life circumstances shaped the Baby Boomer generation, and show how organizations can leverage their unique values to retain these experienced workers. Economist Terry Ludeman will present demographic information on 50+ workers in Western Wisconsin and describe how retiring workers will impact regional workforces. Senator Herb Kohl, chairman of the Special Committee on Aging, will discuss the special issues that affect older workers. Local business and manufactures will share their strategies for retaining and hiring the 50+ worker, and area retirees who have re-entered the workforce will talk about why they leave jobs, why they stay and what they look for in an employer.
