Soup and Bread Night at UW-Eau Claire
Raised $1,900 for Local Food Pantry

RELEASED: April 20, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students raised $1,900 for a local food pantry through the Blugold Dining program's recent Soup and Bread Night initiative.

Emily Moore, executive director of Feed My People, will accept the donation at the Blugold Dining Committee meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, April 23, in the Badger Room of Davies Center.

Students selected soups, breads and beverages to replace the usual evening menu for Soup and Bread Night, which was presented April 3. The meal was served by Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich and his wife, Debi, volunteers from a number of student organizations, and members of the Blugold Dining committee. Students paid standard meal prices, and savings from the cost of the regular meal service were combined for the donation. Tables in the cafeterias collected additional donations.

Feed My People is a local food bank that distributes donated food and other products to non-profit agencies serving senior citizens, single parents, the working poor, the homeless, the mentally ill and others in need throughout the Chippewa Valley.

A campus tradition since 1995, Soup and Bread Night has now raised more than $15,000 to date for Feed My People.

The Blugold Dining program is administered by the University Centers.
