UW-Eau Claire CE to Offer Course on
Popular Music and the Vietnam War

RELEASED: April 18, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — A short course on "Nam Songs: Popular Music and the Vietnam War" will be held June 12-14 at the Haas Fine Arts Center on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus. Classes will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The course, which is available for undergraduate or graduate credit, is designed for social studies, literature, and music teachers, as well as others with an interest in the Viet Nam War.

Instructor Robert Bloom, retired educator and Vietnam veteran, has done extensive research on the war's effects on the popular culture, political events and music of the time. The host of a local radio show on the same subject aired on WHYS Eau Claire Community Radio, Bloom is also writing a book on Nam songs. He will take participants on a chronological journey through the political era and share songs inspired by the war from his large collection of recordings.

The fee is $149 for the workshop only; $356.69 for one graduate credit, and $227.23 for one undergraduate credit.
