UW-Eau Claire Guest Speaker to Present
Several Talks on Hmong Culture

EAU CLAIRE — The Office of Multicultural Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will sponsor several presentations on Hmong culture, Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21.

On Friday, the UW-Eau Claire community and general public are invited to a lunch and conversation with Dr. Gary Yia Lee, a distinguished Hmong scholar from Sydney, Australia, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the The Dulany, Davies Center. Lunch buffet is $6.86 for all-you-care-to-eat buffet, beverage and dessert.

Since 1976, Lee has been involved in resettlement work with Southeast Asian and Indochinese refugees. He is a senior liaison officer with the Ethnic Affairs Commission for New South Wales, Australia.

From 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Lee will present "The Implications of Higher Education for the Hmong Community" at an evening presentation and dinner in The Dulany, compliments of the Visiting Minority Scholar Artist Program, the Research Center for Cultural Diversity and Community Renewal of UW-La Crosse and the UW-Eau Claire Office of Multicultural Affairs. The dinner is limited to 30, so please make reservations by contacting Charles Vue, Hmong/Southeast Asian coordinator in the Office of Multicultural Affairs, at vuecc@uwec.edu.

The Hmong Student Association will hold a Culture Fest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday April 21, in the Council Fire Room, Davies Center. Several workshops will be presented in the morning and afternoon sessions and Lee will speak on "Hmong Resettlement and Culture: The Hmong in the World Then and Now" at 11:30 a.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center. A large group discussion and closing statement will conclude the program from 2 to 3 p.m.
