Registration for NYSP
at UW-Eau Claire to Start April 9

RELEASED: April 5, 2007

NYSP logoEAU CLAIRE — Registration for the award-winning National Youth Sports Program at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will begin on April 9. This year will be the 27th year in a row that this free, five-week summer camp has been held at UW-Eau Claire.

The summer sports camp is for youth ages 10-16 in the Chippewa Valley area. The camp will be held June 12-July 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The camp days will be filled with basketball, softball, tennis, football, soccer, a challenge ropes course and special events. In addition to sports activities, youth will also learn about drugs/alcohol, health and nutrition, higher education and math and science.

NYSP's mission is to provide children with the right start. In addition to providing sports and instructional activities, NYSP accomplishes this by providing all children at the camp with a medical exam, breakfast and lunch, all free of cost.

Due to NYSP's partnerships with area school districts, only youth ages 10-16 whose parents or guardians reside in the Eau Claire and Altoona School Districts (public and private schools) will be provided with transportation to and from the camp. Youth whose parents or guardians reside outside the Eau Claire or Altoona School districts must provide their own transportation to and from the camp.

UW-Eau Claire has hosted NYSP since 1981 and its program has been recognized as one of the finest in the nation, receiving the Silvio O. Conte Award of Excellence an unprecedented three times (1991, 1998, 2004).

To register for NYSP, call 715-836-3377 or 715-836-3378 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. For more information about NYSP, visit their Web site.
