UW-Eau Claire Honors Week
Set for April 23-29

RELEASED: April 3, 2007

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is celebrating its 35th annual Scholastic Honors Week Monday, April 23, through Sunday, April 29. This week is the time set aside by the university to recognize students of high scholastic achievement.

The following programs, with the exception of the Honors Banquet, are open to the public and free of charge. All events will take place in Davies Center unless otherwise noted.

Monday, April 23

  • No events planned

Tuesday, April 24

  • 5:30 p.m. — Banquet and awards presentation - Presidents Room (Sigma Pi Sigma)

Wednesday, April 25

  • Noon. — Panel Discussion - Graduate and Professional School Spotlight featuring as panelists seniors Brandon Barrette, Green Bay, Sally Gelhaus, Medford, Katrina Guckenberg, Omro/Neenah, Kristina Hesse, Cologne/Chaska, Minn., Lori Scardino, Eau Claire, Jennifer Schank, Arcadia, and Chelsey Sutton, Prairie Du Chien - Potowatomi Room (Golden Key and Mortar Board)
  • 2 p.m. — 2007 Distinguished Master's Thesis Presentation - Laura Hurd (MS-CSD, '06) will make a presentation about her award-winning master's thesis, "A comparison of Language Production, Language Comprehension, and Cognitive Functioning in Identical Twins with Williams Syndrome." A discussion will follow. All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served. Sponsored by the Graduate Council and the Office of University Graduate Studies - Potawatomi Room
  • 4:30 p.m. — Juegos Florales Poetry Reading Competition in Spanish - Presidents Room (Sigma Delta Pi)

Thursday, April 26

  • 6 p.m. — Initiation and presentation of the Karl Andresen Award - Alumni Room (Pi Sigma Alpha)
  • 7 p.m.-midnight — Annual SOPHS Telethon with TV 10 - Towers TV Lounge/TV 10 studio (SOPHS)
  • 7:30 p.m. — 10th Annual Ann Devroy Memorial Forum - Featured Speakers are Washington Post editors Bob Kaiser and Bob Woodward - Zorn Arena

Friday, April 27

  • 8:30 a.m. — Annual Kaleidoscope of Nursing Research Day - keynote speaker Dr. Karen Solheim, presenting "Evidence-based Practice in Global Health" - Davies Center and Nursing Building (Sigma Theta Tau, College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Continuing Education)
  • 4:30 p.m. — Reception for inductees and Dr. Karen Solheim - Room 119, Nursing Building (The Delta Phi Chapter of the Honor Society of Nursing: Sigma Theta Tau)
  • 5:30 p.m. — Induction Ceremony - Room 119, Nursing Building (Sigma Theta Tau International)

Saturday, April 28 — Honors Day

  • 11 a.m. — Initiation - Davies Theatre (Phi Kappa Phi)
  • 1 p.m. — Initiation - Schofield Auditorium (Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma)
  • 1 p.m. — Initiation - Alumni Room (Beta Gamma Sigma)
  • 2-5 p.m. — Combined reception - Council Fire Room - Sponsored by the Alumni Association and UW-Eau Claire honors groups (for all honor society members, friends and families attending initiations or events).Will include a special presentation recognizing Dr. Roma Hoff, professor emeriti, for her 35 years of dedicated service and support of Honors Week.
  • 2:30 p.m. — Initiation - Presidents Room (Beta Alpha Psi)
  • 3 p.m. — Initiation - Davies Theatre (Omicron Delta Kappa)
  • 4 p.m. — Initiation - Alumni Room (Sigma Gamma Zeta II)
  • 5:30 p.m. — 2007 Honors Banquet - Spruce/Tamarack, Davies Center (Seating will begin at 5 p.m. Tickets available at University Service Center, $14 per person. All reservations are due by April 17.)

Sunday, April 29

  • 11:30 a.m. — Initiation ceremony - Central Campus Mall or Davies Theatre in the case of inclement weather (Mortar Board). A noon brunch will follow in the Council Fire Room.
