This photo taken in Costa Rica shows a nun walking past graffiti that reads, "No a la tortura, si a la cultura," or "No to torture, yes to culture." The photo, by student Aaron Schasse, will be among those on display as part of his exhibit, "Costa Rica: Inside and Out," from Oct. 2-27 in McIntyre Library. |
EAU CLAIRE — Aaron Schasse, Eau Claire, a senior graphic design student at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, will present an exhibit titled "Costa Rica: Inside and Out," in the Grand Corridor of McIntyre Library in conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month.
The exhibit, which will be on display Oct. 2-27, includes photographs and short video poems from Schasse's travels to San Jose in 2005 and is the result of a student/faculty collaborative grant project with Cara Tomlinson, assistant professor of art, and Sean Regan, assistant professor of art history. Schasse, who has a minor in Latin American Studies, said the focus of his research became the evolving process of reviewing the footage he'd obtained and assembling it in a way that would communicate "the emotional content, truth and beauty" of his experiences.
There will be an opening reception for the exhibit at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in the Grand Corridor for those interested in meeting Schasse and discussing his work. The public is invited to attend.
