EAU CLAIRE — Dr. Scott Lowe, professor and chair of the department of philosophy and religious studies at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, will present a faculty colloquium, "The Neo-Hindu Transformation of an Iowa Town," at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, in Room 324 of Hibbard Humanities Hall. The presentation is free and open to interested community members.

According to Lowe, the subject is the town of Fairfield, Iowa, and the process by which its economic survival has become linked to the influx of primarily American and European practitioners of Transcendental Meditation.

Lowe said he became interested in Fairfield in the 1980s, while he was studying for his doctoral degree at the University of Iowa, an hour away in Iowa City.

"Friends from grad school who live in Fairfield got me down to visit last fall; I returned three more times to document the changes I saw happening," Lowe said. "The talk will be based on photographs I took, along with my explanation of what appears to be happening beneath the surface."

For more information, contact Lowe at 715-836-2993 or lowed@uwec.edu.
