SUBJECT: Sept. 28 Nanotechnology Events

'Thinking Small' brochure coverThe program titled "Thinking Small: Nanotechnology and the American Dream" will run from noon-7 p.m. Sept. 28 at several Chippewa Valley locations. The program includes a series of events that highlight work in nanotechnology at UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout, UW-Madison and the Chippewa Valley Technical College, and the impact it's already making on the economy in western Wisconsin.

The schedule of events includes the following activities:

  • Brown Bag Discussion, noon-1:30 p.m., Silicon Graphics Inc. headquarters, Chippewa Falls. The event will feature Dr. Franco Cerrina, director of the Center of Nanotechnology at UW-Madison.
  • High School Outreach Program, 1-2:30 p.m., Memorial High School, Eau Claire. Presenters will include graduate students from UW-Madison's Nanotechnology Outreach program. High school science classes will be invited to the event.
  • Tour and Discussion, 3-4:30 p.m., Chippewa Valley Technical College NanoRite Center, Eau Claire. Dr. William Ihlenfeldt, CVTC president, will host the event.
  • "Thinking Small: Nanotechnology and the American Dream" public lecture and reception, 5:30-7 p.m., Phillips Science Hall, UW-Eau Claire. Featured speakers include Cerrina; Doug Dunham, UW-Eau Claire; Forrest Schultz, UW-Stout; and Hans Mikelson from CVTC. Area alumni from UW-Madison and UW-Eau Claire are among those invited to the public lecture and reception.

All events are open to the media.
