International Exporting Workshop Series
Offered By UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education

EAU CLAIRE — With an increase of nearly 17.5 percent in 2005, exports are the fastest growing segment of Wisconsin's economy. A series of workshops sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Small Business Development Center and Continuing Education, in collaboration with the International Division of the Wisconsin Department of Commerce, is designed to help businesses learn how to profitably export products to international markets. Workshop topics, speakers, dates and locations are as follows:

  • "Getting Started Exporting — International Market Research," from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 20, at the Cargill Computer Lab in Schneider Hall on the UW-Eau Claire campus. John Konkel, Wisconsin Department of Commerce, International Division, will address the challenges and advantages of exporting, trade agreements, and share some of the best international market research Web sites.

  • "Doing Business with China," from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 6, at the Plaza Hotel in Eau Claire. Speakers Barton Guo, LogicCare Corporation, and Terry Radtke, International Sales Manager for Greenheck Corporation, will discuss important cultural differences between East and West, China's emerging middle class, and challenges and opportunities for manufacturing in China.

  • "Opportunities in India," from 9 a.m. to noon, Jan. 24, at the Plaza Hotel in Eau Claire. Topics covered by UW-Eau Claire professors Rama Yelkur and Raj Aroskar, and Mohit Uberoi, president of Megtec Systems, include historical and cultural aspects of India, and challenges and opportunities to consider when doing business with India.

  • "Methods of Payment in Global Markets," from 9 a.m. to noon March 14, at the Plaza Hotel in Eau Claire. Nancy Burton, vice president of International Banking at Associated Bank in Green Bay, will cover open accounts to letters of credit, balancing risk versus making the sale, and best methods to assure payment.
