for the Week of Sept. 18

RELEASED: Sept. 13, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Sept. 18. All events are free and open to the public.

Wednesday, Sept. 20:

  • Guest artist Jon Sass will present a tuba recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The program will include improvisations. Sass has toured the world with the Vienna Art Orchestra and has played with world class artists, including Ray Anderson, Boston Symphony Brass — Empire Brass, Art of Brass Vienna, Butch Morris, David Murray, Erika Stucky and more. Sponsored by the University of Wisconsin System Institute on Race and Ethnicity; B&S-tubas made by JA Musik in Markneukirchen, Germany; UW-Eau Claire Office of Research and Sponsored Programs; UW-Eau Claire Office of Multicultural Affairs; and the UW-Eau Claire department of music and theatre arts.

Sunday, Sept. 24:

  • Phillip Ostrander, assistant professor of music, will perform a tuba recital at 2 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Ostrander will open with Georg Philipp Telemann's Fantasy in Db Major, followed by "Aria and Polonaise" by Joseph Jongen. Also planned for the program are works by John Stevens, Tomaso Albinoni and Anthony Plog. Ostrander's final selection is Fritz Grube's Concertino.
