EAU CLAIRE — The Profits, a Madison acoustic pop-rock band that was named Best Overall Artist at the Madison Area Music Awards, will headline a free outdoor concert Friday, Sept. 15, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Local favorites The Daredevil Christopher Wright will appear as special guests at the show, which will start at 7 p.m. on the Central Campus Mall.

"With memorable melodies, heartfelt lyrics and tight harmonies, the Profits wouldn't sound out of place on pop-rock radio stations," wrote The Capital Times (Madison). "But they use only acoustic instruments, such as an upright bass instead of an electric bass guitar, which gives the songs a warm and intimate flavor."

"The Profits' run is one of the best success stories in Madison's recent rock 'n' roll renaissance," wrote the Wisconsin State Journal.

Fronted by group founder John Paul Roney, the Profits came together three years ago while its members attended the UW-Madison. With no support from a label or management team, the band packed the 1,300-seat Orpheum Theater in Madison something that many national acts are unable to do. Attracting top level attention and throngs of fans, including a 700-plus member street team that promotes the group, the Profits has been heralded by media such as The Onion and Triple M Radio as one of the Midwest's top acoustic rock bands.

Rapidly gaining popularity in the Midwest, The Daredevil Christopher Wright has a self-titled EP that has been widely acknowledged and praised by critics and fans alike.

The concert is free and open to all ages and the public. In the event of rain, the show will move from the mall between Zorn Arena and Schneider Hall to the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

The concert is sponsored by the University Activities Commission of the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate.
