Four UW-Eau Claire Nursing Students
Receive Scholarships at WLN Conference

RELEASED: Oct. 23, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — Four University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire nursing students were among 20 students from around the state selected to receive $1,000 Wisconsin League for Nursing Scholarships funded by the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wisconsin.

Seniors Marcella Robinson, Friendship, and Rachelle Fischer, Altoona, and juniors Morgan Maves, Elkhorn, and Amy Lavin, Medford, received their scholarships on Friday, Oct. 13, at the 2006 WLN conference in Waukesha. The theme of the conference was "Diversity in Nursing Education: What's in it for me?"

"We discussed and heard from a wide variety of individuals, not only on the impact that diversity has on the nursing profession as a whole, but how we, as future nurses, can help shape the way diversity positively affects nursing in the near future," Maves said.

Maves said that the type of diversity discussed at the conference went beyond race and gender issues to include the generation gap as well.

This Wisconsin League for Nursing Scholarship program, established to help address the nursing shortage, requires students who have completed at least half of the credits necessary for graduation to write about their scholastic ability, professional or community activities, goals for nursing and financial need.
