for the Week of Oct. 23

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Oct. 23. All events are free and open to the public.

Monday, Oct. 23:

  • The OctOBOE Fest oboe studio recital will take place at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The recital will feature sophomore Lauren Zemlicka, Shorewood; freshmen Kelsey Seline, St. Paul Park, Minn., Emily Mueller, Port Washington, and Rebecca Czubin, New Richmond; junior Ashley Singer, Muskego; and seniors Tim Baumann, River Falls, and Emily Weber, Marshfield. The music of Samuel Barber, Maurice Ravel and Ralph Vaughan Williams will be among the works presented at the concert.

Sunday, Oct. 29:

  • The University Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Paul Kosower, professor of music, will present a concert at 2 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The program will include Handel's Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No.12 and Bela Bartok's "Romanian Folk Dance." The ensemble will conclude with "Simple Symphony" by Benjamin Britten.
  • Soprano Mitra Sadeghpour, assistant professor of music, will perform a recital at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The performance will include Shakespeare's lyrics, set to music by composers such as Franz Schubert, Richard Strauss, Thomas Morley and John Wilson. The final set of selections will include Cole Porter's "I Hate Men" and "So In Love," Bernstein's "I Feel Pretty" and "Sing For Your Supper" by Richard Rodgers.
