for the Week of Oct. 9

RELEASED: Oct. 5, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Oct. 9. All events are free and open to the public.

Tuesday, Oct. 10:

  • UW-Eau Claire euphonium and tuba students will present Part I of OcTUBAfest at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall. The concert will open with the world premiere of "Fanfare for Euphonium Quartet" by Robert Chamberlin. Part I of OcTUBAfest also will feature the music of Walter S. Hartley, Nicolo Pagagnini and James Grant. The concert will conclude with "Fnugg" by Oystein Baadsvik and Rodger D. Vaughen's arrangement of Stevens' "Down by the Old Mill Stream."
  • Part II of OcTUBAfest will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The second portion also will consist of performances by UW-Eau Claire euphonium and tuba students. The concert will feature the music of Bach, Michael B. Mitmoen, Julius Klengel and Halsey Stevens. The concert will end with Paymond Luedeke's "Wonderland Duets" and "Down by the Old Mill Stream" arranged by Rodger D. Vaughan.

Thursday, Oct. 12:

  • Senior Kenyon Scheurman, River Falls, will present a tenor and alto trombone recital at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Scheurman will perform Five Bagatelles, Op. 23 for Clarinet and Piano by Gerald Finzi and Oboe Concerto in G minor by Handel. The second half of the recital will consist of Sonatine pour Trombone et Piano by Jacques Castrde and Elgie Opus 3, No. 1 by Rachmaninov.
