Marshfield Site Nursing Instructors
Recognized with Excellence Award

RELEASED: Oct. 4, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — Faculty members at the Marshfield site of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire College of Nursing and Health Sciences were recently honored with a 2006 Circle of Excellence Award from Saint Joseph's Hospital and Ministry Health Care.

Dr. Robin Beeman, Marshfield site coordinator, and nursing instructors Linda Duffy, Lori Waltonen, Janice Berry and Lisa Gowey-Fischer were among those who received the awards at the Circle of Excellence Recognition Day Awards Ceremony held Sept. 19 in Marshfield.

The Circle of Excellence Awards recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to improving the health and well-being of all people, especially the poor, in the communities served by Saint Joseph's Hospital and Ministry Health Care. Awardees were cited for helping Ministry Health Care strive to meet a specific one of their five long-term objectives. The UW-Eau Claire nurses were cited for their contributions to promoting "a values-based culture."

President of Saint Joseph's Hospital Michael Schmidt presented the award. The nurses were nominated by Jerilyn St. Amand, a new employee who said that although she'd only held her position for three weeks, she had already been impressed with the values displayed by the UW-Eau Claire nursing instructors as they interacted with her, the students in the baccalaureate nursing program and hospital employees. She credited their professionalism, helpfulness and mentoring for creating an "environment that fosters care, learning and compassion."

"This helps the students and everyone else feel more comfortable in the learning environment and also develops the positive, professional and caring attributes that are critical in the nursing career," wrote St. Amand.

"This is a wonderful recognition of the UW-Eau Claire Marshfield Site faculty," said Dr. Elaine Wendt, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. "We are proud of our program's collaboration with Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, and it is an honor for our faculty to be recognized by Saint Joseph's Hospital and Ministry Health Care."
