UW-Eau Claire Students Invited
to Donate Canned Food for Needy

RELEASED: Oct. 4, 2006

Cans Across America logoEAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students are being invited to fight hunger and help those in need right in the Chippewa Valley by taking part in a special Cans Across America event Wednesday, Oct. 18. The Blugold Dining program will sponsor the canned food drive from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in The Terrace (Davies Center) and Riverview Cafe (Hilltop Center).

An initiative of the nonprofit Sodexho Foundation, Cans Across America aims to set a Guinness World Record for the most canned food donations raised during a single event in multiple locations across the United States. All of the non-perishable food items collected on the UW-Eau Claire campus will help senior citizens, single parents, the working poor, the homeless, the mentally ill and others in need throughout the Chippewa Valley.

"Cans Across America is a great way for students to give back to the community, something most students truly want to do," said Gary Prellwitz, director of Blugold Dining. "It will allow them to have some fun while helping a lot of deserving people. It's also really exciting to have a chance to set a new Guinness World Record in the process. This event can prove to be our most rewarding promotion of the year."

More information is available from the Blugold Dining office, 715-836-5261, or online. UW-Eau Claire's dining services program is administered by the University Centers.
