for the Week of Nov. 27

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Monday, Nov. 27. All events are free and open to the public.

Wednesday, Nov. 29:

  • The Opera Workshop will present a Sondheim Cabaret recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. More than 20 voice students will perform pieces from Stephen Sondheim's most popular musicals, including "Into the Woods," "A Little Night Music," "Sweeney Todd" and "Sunday in the Park with George." Meghan Quinn, Shoreview, Minn., and Emily Weber, Marshfield, will provide piano accompaniment.
  • The Wisconsin Woodwind Quintet will perform a concert at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The program will include works by Hector Berlioz, Robert Washburn, Wilfred Josephs and Alvin Etler. The final selection for the performance will be "Scherzo" by Eugne Bozza. Members of the ensemble are Tim Lane, professor of music, on flute; Christa Garvey, assistant professor of music, on oboe; Richard Fletcher, professor of music, on clarinet; Kristine Fletcher, senior lecturer of music, on bassoon; and Verle Ormsby Jr., lecturer of music, on horn.

Thursday, Nov. 30:

  • The Voice Ensemble concert will take place at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The concert will include performances by students in all of the voice studios. Voice students will perform works by Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms and others. Tiffany Torris, Onalaska, will perform on piano.

Sunday, Dec. 3:

  • The piano faculty will present a recital at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The recital will center around the music of Mozart and Edvard Grieg with performances by Lori Cruciani, associate lecturer of music; Namji Kim, assistant professor of music; Hyeson Ahn, associate lecturer of music; Barbara Wimunc-Pearson, professor of music; and Donald Patterson, professor of music.
