Film Presentations and Discussions
to Highlight World AIDS Day

RELEASED: Nov. 22, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — Several University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire organizations will be participating in World AIDS Day with a film presentation and discussion.

The first showing of "Pandemic: Facing AIDS" will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, in Room 103 of Hibbard Humanities Hall; it will be followed by a forum discussion. The second showing will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, in Room 100 of HHH and will also include a discussion.

AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin, Pre-Med Club, Student Life and Diversity, Student Services, Student Senate, Women's Gender and Equity Center, UW-Eau Claire UNICEF, Student Wellness Advocacy Team, and SPECTRUM are all sponsoring the AIDS day film showing.

The event is an effort to generate support for World AIDS Day on Friday, Dec. 1. WAGE said that they hope the activity will help create awareness of the local and global impact of AIDS.

The discussions following the films will be led by two UW-Eau Claire faculty members, professor of social work Dr. Nick Smiar and associate professor of sociology Dr. Jeff Erger, as well as John Welch from the Eau Claire office of the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin. Welch will address the local impact of HIV and AIDS, as well as the community resources that are available through ARCW. The faculty members and Welch will give short presentations followed by a question-and-answer session.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact WAGE at wage@uwec.edu.
