Tip Sheet for the week of Nov. 20, 2006

RELEASED: Nov. 20, 2006

Story Idea
UW-Eau Claire students who are looking for jobs or internships can fine-tune their interviewing skills using a computer that facilitates and records the practice interview. Patty Practice, located in Career Services, digitally records students' practice interviews and streams it into their online student account, making it accessible from any computer with an Internet connection. Self-produced mock interviews help students practice their interviewing skills, which are critical to landing a job or internship. Students can conduct a mock interview online and store it for viewing for up to 60 days. The technology allows students to practice general interview questions geared toward core competencies. The technology was designed by some of the best global recruiters in the world to challenge students' interviewing ability. For more information about the mock interview technology and how students are using it, contact Jeanne Skoug, director of Career Services, at 715-836-5258 or skougjm@uwec.edu.

Story/Photo Idea
UW-Eau Claire's Fall Short Play Festival will continue Nov. 20 and 21 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Riverside Theatre of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Several plays are presented at each performance. For details, contact the music and theatre arts department at 715-836-2284.

Story Idea
UW-Eau Claire's L.E. Phillips Planetarium in Phillips Hall now has a hearing assistance system available to visitors. This technology broadcasts the sound to a receiver with an earphone, and the person using the device controls the volume. The devices make it easier for people with a hearing loss to hear the shows. The Planetarium offers a series of programs for children and adults on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the academic year. For more information, call 715-836-5034.

Calendar Notes
There will be no classes at UW-Eau Claire Nov. 23-24 in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday. Classes will resume Monday, Nov. 27. Administrative offices will be closed Nov. 23 for the holiday. Offices will be open Friday, Nov. 24.
