Classic War Drama, 'The Great Escape,'
to Film at UW-Eau Claire Nov. 30-Dec. 3

scene from "The Great Escape"EAU CLAIRE — "The Great Escape" (1963), a suspenseful World War II blockbuster with a top-notch international cast, will screen Nov. 30-Dec. 3 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Based on Paul Brickhill's memoir, the 172-minute adventure will screen at 7 p.m. Thursday through Sunday in Davies Theatre.

In 1943, the Nazis opened Stalag Luft III, a maximum-security prisoner-of-war camp in central Europe designed to hold the craftiest escape artists. They unwittingly assembled the finest escape team in military history. Together, under the guidance of Squadron Leader Bartlett (Richard Attenborough), the Allied airmen plan their audacious escape. The stellar cast includes Steve McQueen, James Garner, Charles Bronson, Donald Pleasance, James Coburn and David McCallum.

Directed by John Sturges, the film is not rated.

Admission is $2 for International Film Society members and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff and $1 for UW-Eau Claire students. Tickets are available at the Service Center, 715-836-3727, in Davies Center's east lobby, and will be sold at the door.
