UW-Eau Claire Women's Concert Chorale
to Perform Sunday Afternoon Concert

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Women's Concert Chorale will present a concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The Women's Concert Chorale is directed by Alan Rieck, associate professor of music, and accompanied by junior Kathryn Eckes, Maple Grove, Minn. The ensemble will open with "Domine Deus" by Johann Michael Haydn, followed by "V'amo di core" by Mozart and Schumann's "Volksliedchen."

The second set in the performance will consist of Benjamin Britten's "A Ceremony of Carols," featuring sophomore Bethany Van Goor, Fall Creek, on harp, and solos by sophomore Anna Torgerson, Prior Lake, Minn.; senior Caitlin Walbrun, Hudson; senior Jonanna Fulton, Janesville; senior Amy Oppriecht, Gays Mills; sophomore Abigail Stellmacher, Appleton; and junior Kristine Becker, Crystal, Minn.

In the second half of the concert, Women's Concert Chorale will open with William Byrd's "Sing Ye to the Lord." The ensemble's next selection, "Lauda Sion" by Gyorgy Orban, is a piece little known in the United States and only published in Germany. Following the Orban, Eckes will be joined at the piano by sophomore Anna Torgerson, Prior Lake, Minn., for the performance of "Magnificat" by Z. Randall Stroope.

The final set of selections for the Women's Concert Chorale performance will include Howard Blake's "Walking in the Air." The piece was arranged by senior Joanna Fulton, Janesville, and will feature her as student conductor. The ensemble also will perform "Hand in Hand," a traditional Chinese piece, and "El Romanton" By Francisco Muro.

Women's Concert Chorale performed as a featured ensemble at the Wisconsin Music Educator's Association Fall Conference in 2002 and will appear as a featured ensemble at the Wisconsin Choral Director's Association Convention in January. The group completed their first international tour in March 2005 to the People's Republic of China. The ensemble released its first CD, "We Are One," in May 2005.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
