UW-Eau Claire's Singing Statesmen
to Perform Fall Concert Nov. 10

Singing StatesmenEAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Singing Statesmen will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The Statesmen, directed by Gary Schwartzhoff, professor of music, will release their eighth CD, titled "A Testament," at the concert, which will open with "Consecrate the Place and Day" by Lloyd Pfautsch, followed by "O Filii et Filiae" by Volckmar Leisring. David Conte's "Canticle" will feature freshman Kevin Gisi, Fitchburg, and freshman Jonathan Turba, Platteville, on piano. Randall Thompson's "Tarantella" and Z. Randall Stroope's "Dies Irae," dedicated to the Singing Statesmen in 2006, also will be performed in the first half of the concert.

The Innocent Men, an all-male a cappella group auditioned from the members of the Singing Statesmen, will start off the second half of the concert with "Ain't Got the Good Thing," as arranged by junior Reid Larsen, Waconia, Minn. They also will perform "One Love," arranged by Abby Schmidt, and "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic," arranged by former member Paul Nikstad. The members include junior Larsen; junior Adam Rubach, Waterford; sophomore Isaias Acosta, Altoona; junior Ryan Summers, Waukesha; sophomore Devin Jones, Eden Prairie, Minn.; and sophomore Brian Meyer, Clintonville.

After the Innocent Men complete their set, the choir will take the stage again to perform James Mulholland's "Think On Me" and Moses Hogan's arrangement of "Go Down Moses." "Broken Vow" and "When We Were Kings," as arranged by former Statesman Tom Anderson, will also be included in the set. The two arrangements will feature solos by senior Brad Schaack, Cottage Grove, Minn., Chris Goltz, Marinette, and junior Alex Krukowski, Waconia, Minn. The Statesmen will close with "Songs of the University," a tribute to their alma mater.

The ensemble has represented UW-Eau Claire on five international concert tours since 1980. The Statesmen most recently toured Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in January 2006. They performed at the 1983 and 2003 National Conventions of the American Choral Directors Association and the ensemble hosted the Intercollegiate Men's Choruses, Inc. National Seminar in 1996 and 2006. In 1994, The Statesmen performed for the Austrian National Day of Celebration at the Austrian Consulate in Chicago and at the 1995 Eastern Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Milwaukee. The ensemble also performed at the Wisconsin Music Educators Convention in 1998 and 2004.

Tickets, available at the University Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, children 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
