Environmental Author Dan Chiras to Speak
at Beaver Creek Reserve and UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE — Dan Chiras, a prominent author and lecturer on environmental issues, will speak at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Beaver Creek Reserve and at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 13, at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Chiras' presentations are sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire biology department, the geography and anthropology department, Beaver Creek Reserve, Xcel Energy and the Marshfield Clinic.

Chiras' Sunday evening presentation, "EcoKids: Raising Children Who Care for the Earth," will follow a Beaver Creek Reserve annual meeting at 5 p.m. and a banquet at 5:45 p.m. The presentation will focus on how parents, grandparents, teachers, and nature centers can foster in children a deep and abiding environmental ethic and respect for the environment through increased education. Chiras will highlight the role that youth can play in cleaning up the environment.

Tickets to see Chiras at Beaver Creek Reserve are $7; tickets for the meeting, banquet and Chiras' presentation are $12. Reservations are requested no later than Sunday, Nov. 5, by calling 715-877-2212.

On Nov. 13, Chiras' presentation, "Re-Energizing America: Curing America's Addiction to Fossil Fuels," will be held in UW-Eau Claire's Schofield Auditorium. Chiras intends to cover how Americans can break their addiction to damaging fossil fuels. This presentation is free.

Chiras has published 23 books and hundreds of articles on renewable energy, green building and related topics. His books include college textbooks such as "Environmental Science" and "Natural Resource Conservation."
