EAU CLAIRE — The Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony will present its 25th anniversary concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 13, in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus. The event is free and open to the public.

This concert will be music director and conductor Ivar Lunde Jr.'s last with the Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony. Lunde was the Symphony's founder and has served as its director since its inception in 1981. In honor of Lunde's 25 years of service to the Youth Symphony, a reception will be held before the concert at 4:30 p.m. in the Haas Fine Arts Center lobby. Alumni and friends are especially invited to attend the reception and concert.

Graduating members of the symphony also will be honored at this concert. Mark Van de Loo is the piano soloist.

The concert will open with "Perpetual Motion" from Suite III, No. 6 by Carl Bohm. Other pieces include "On the Trail" from "The Grand Canyon Suite" by Ferde Grofe, selections from "Phantom of the Opera" by Andrew Lloyd Weber and "Hungarian Dance No. 6" by Johannes Brahms.

The Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony offers a creative outlet and symphony experience for area students in grades 7-12. This year there are 63 members plus six UW-Eau Claire student section leaders.
