UW-Eau Claire to Host Astronomy Day May 6
at L. E. Phillips Science Hall

astronomy pictureEAU CLAIRE — The L.E. Phillips Planetarium, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire department of physics and astronomy, and the Chippewa Valley Astronomical Society will sponsor Astronomy Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 6 at UW-Eau Claire.

Activities will take place on the first floor of Phillips Science Hall, or outside the north entrance, where participants can visit the Dream Odyssey Space Shuttle.

The event will feature planetarium shows, safe solar observing, a radio astronomy demonstration, telescopes, handouts and displays. People of all ages will enjoy viewing 3-D images of Mars and the sun's spectrum, as well as a scale model of the Mars Exploration Rover. Participants also can test their knowledge of astronomy trivia by playing "Who Wants to be A Millionaire Astronomer?"

The event is free and open to the public and will take place rain or shine!
