UW-Eau Claire Surpasses Goal Raising Funds
for Food Pantry

RELEASED: March 28, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has announced that a recent dining services initiative surpassed its goal and raised nearly $2,000 for a local food pantry.

Sodexho Campus Services presented a check for $1,979.36 to Feed My People, an organization that distributes donated food and other products to non-profit agencies serving senior citizens, single parents, the working poor, the homeless, the mentally ill and others in need throughout the Chippewa Valley.

On March 7, University Dining Services presented Soup and Bread Night, an event at which soups, breads and beverages replace the usual evening menu in Davies Center and Hilltop Center. Cafeterias are staffed by volunteers from student organizations and members of the dining services committee. Students pay standard meal prices, and savings from the cost of the regular meal service are combined for the donation. Tables in the cafeterias solicit additional donations.

More than 950 students participated in the March fundraiser. A campus tradition since 1995, Soup and Bread Night has now raised more than $13,000 for Feed My People to date.

UW-Eau Claire's dining services program is administered by University Centers and Programs.
