UW-Eau Claire Business Students Place Third
in Regional Competition

RELEASED: March 13, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — A University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire team of students placed third in the Association for Operations Management Region 14 Student Case Competition. Seventeen teams competed in the APICS event held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11, in Downer's Grove, Ill.

The students competing from UW-Eau Claire were senior Lindsey Zenner, Medford, a business administration major; senior Matt Caruso, South St. Paul, Minn., a comprehensive management major with an operations/materials management emphasis; senior Cara Dobson, Portage, a comprehensive management major with a minor in accounting; junior Timothy Graft, Wayzata, Minn., a comprehensive marketing major; junior Derek Bassett, Ashland, a comprehensive management major with an entrepreneurship emphasis; senior Erin Nicksic, New Lisbon, a comprehensive economics major and a comprehensive management major with an operations/materials management emphasis and a minor in international business; senior Carrie Herdendorf, Jefferson, a comprehensive management major with an operations/materials management emphasis; and senior Brett Treichel, Appleton, a comprehensive management major.

The two-day competition is designed to test students' knowledge of supply chain practices and innovations by evaluating a real world situation.

All teams developed a plan for a business facing financial difficulties and produced a three-page paper and a five-minute presentation explaining their plan to make the company in the case more efficient.

The UW-Eau Claire APICS is a student chapter of the national organization. Participants learn about plant operations through speakers and tours.
